Job Description:

Elementary K-5 Teacher

We are seeking candidates that are called to serve the Lord by educating children. Tyrone Christian Academy teachers are gifted, qualified Christian educators who are passionate about teaching and sharing their faith. Tyrone Christian Academy integrates a Biblical worldview curriculum, project based learning and life-skills training to promote a high level of academic and spiritual success.

The core teachers at Tyrone Christian Academy are responsible for teaching one or all of the following subjects: reading, phonics, handwriting, spelling, social studies, math, science, Bible, history and language as well as leading students in prayer and worship. Subjects taught may vary from grade to grade. Teachers are expected to participate in curriculum and grade planning with the administration. Additionally, teachers are responsible for grading, parent communication and recognizing and evaluating student learning and development. Teachers will be responsible to create and maintain an environment that ensures students are enthusiastic about growing spiritually and academically.

  • Understanding of core academic subjects
  • Desire to teach children in a Christian environment
  • Teach curriculum from a Biblical worldview
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents and other faculty members
  • Maintain a loving, fair and kind classroom discipline plan
  • Willingness to collaborate with other staff members for school, curriculum, student and staff growth and development
  • Must regularly attend a Christ-based church
  • Must be a born-again Christian
  • Must agree with the Tyrone Christian Academy’s Statement of Faith

Responsibilities

  • Instruct students on core curriculum to continue student development
  • Direct grade level appropriate projects, assignments and tests
  • Grade each student on behavior and class mastery each quarter
  • Maintain accurate attendance, academic and behavioral records
  • Maintain communication with teachers, administrators and parents regarding classroom discipline and academic issues
  • Act in a manner consistent with Christian characteristics and direct children in maintaining a Christian worldview
  • Participate in school-sponsored events, fundraisers and functions in excess of regular school hours
  • Abide by policies and procedures in the Faculty Handbook
  • Collaborate with teachers and administration to develop curriculum and project based learning activities

Compensation

Salary: $32,000-$40,000 starting compensation package which includes salary, health care stipend and retirement matching. Actual salary may vary depending on prior experience.

Core teachers will be classified as full-time, exempt, and at-will employees requiring 40 hours of work per week, more or less depending on the week. The working time will consist of instructional and preparation time. The amount, schedule and time of both instructional and preparation times will vary depending on the grade and yearly academic schedule. Full-time teachers will be paid a salary rate over a twelve month period. Further hours may be necessary during or in preparation for special occasions and projects. As a full-time employee, the teacher will receive benefits as outlined in the current Faculty Handbook.
